business processesAs a business owner, I have come to realize, over the years, that business processes keep a business running and connected. Without business processes, an owner may experience an unstable work environment where teams may be out of control. Having business processes in place has helped me to create ways to easily train new team members. This is why I'm thankful for business processes and it's part of my Thankful31 Motivational Campaign.

By having business processes in place, I have been able to even turn them into information products so that others can learn from them. The info products have given me the opportunity to help other business owners bring order to their own businesses.

Why is it important to document business processes?

One of the reasons that I've been successful in my business is because of business processes that are in place and that have been documented. Yes it takes time to set up processes and then documenting them takes even more time. Yet in the end, it will be well worth the effort.

Whether it's “how to input new pricing into the inventory list,” “what does this line of engineering code mean?” or ‘how to do an e-mail marketing campaign,” everything you need to do to run your business should be in some sort of documentation.

What are examples of business processes that need to be in place?

To help you learn more about business processes and to see what a business process can look like, the images below have been included. If you would like to see a larger image, just click on the image and it will open in a new page. In each example below, you will notice that there is a starting point, an end point, decision points and even steps that go from the beginning to the end.

The first image shows three different departments and how the sales process affects each department. This process is good for those business processes that need to span more than one department. In the second image, you see that it covers only one department so it doesn't need to be broken up into sections.

What applications can help you keep your business processes flowing?
