How many tech gadgets does it take to keeping your day organized? For me, it takes my mobile phone, an android tablet, a Kindle Fire, sometimes my Google Chromebook or my desktop. Oh yeah, also my 3 external hards connected to my desktop so that I don’t max out the hard drive space. According to Pew Research. as of January 2014:
- 91% of American adults have a cell phone
- 55% of American adults have a smartphone
- 32% of American adults own an e-reader
- 42% of American adults own a tablet computer
When did we get to the point where we can’t make it through a day without so many tech gadgets? So let's take a look at what I'm referencing when I say tech gadgets. For the sake of this blog post, I am referencing anything that is electronic and used by people to communicate, manage or even play games to keep ourselves “occupied”.
In today's time, we start learning from an early age, the importance of tech gadget in order to keep our lives going or entertained. Take for example TVs that are used as babysitters for babies or children to keep them entertained and also to educate them. Or what about the tech gadgets that allow us to play games on the go.

Nintendo owns the handheld gaming market; not even a question. Their games are better suited for periodic play, they have more developers that work on it exclusively, and they're willing to take risks and try new things.
Now that we have established what is considered tech gadgets, I want to share tips for dealing with them in a healthy manner so that they don't control your life.
How can you tell if tech gadgets are controlling your life?
Let’s see what areas that tech gadgets have taken over. When I talk about “taken over” this basically mean areas where you just can’t live without a some type of a gadget or technology to control things. Some of the ways that you can tell if gadgets are running your life…
- In your daily routine, you may feel the “need” to wake up to technology, spend your day with technology or go to bed with technology.
- When you are scared to allow yourself to be away from your gadgets and technology, then you experience the “fear factor”. Having this “fear factor” from gadgets can cause you to get the “shakes” or be “bewildered” if you are separated from them.
- Family impact should be a big concern. Does your family only use gadgets to communicate, especially if you are in the place or even the same room?
What can you do about it and how can you get help?
Don’t fear, there is help for you to get over or control the gadgets that you have in your life. The first step is to admit that you have a problem with allowing your life to be controlled by gadgets and technology.
Let’s start by monitoring your daily routine and how you have incorporated gadgets and technology into your life. Start off by assessing When, Where and How often you feel the need to be connected to your gadgets. Then determine Why you need these gadgets and What you can do to better organize your daily routine.
When you can't release the fear of being away from your gadget then you just might be addicted and controlled by them. Don't fear, its not to late because you can work through the fear. You can give yourself a Gadget Free Day (GFD) and yes you can do it. I have full faith that you can, because it's something that will give your a release from the hustle and bustle of your life.

Releasing the fear of being away from your tech gadgets is important to restore order to your life. To do this, face up to the fear and allow yourself to push through it.
