When a business participates in community involvement, it's their way of giving back to those in need. I'm thankful that I have this opportunity through one of my businesses, Your Passionate Business. As a business owner, I have chosen to start doing free workshops that center on my book of the same name.
Being open to giving back to the community is important to helping others who want to start their own business. Key to being successful with this is making sure that you have a plan in place for your community involvement. Doing workshops or seminars is the best way to reach multiple people with your outreach to help people start their own business.
What options are available to businesses for community involvement?
According to a Forbes article entitled, How the Best Places to Work are Nailing Employee Engagement, “Companies that nail employee engagement understand that motivating high performance and aligning talent with business strategy requires getting to the heart of what matters to employees.” Key to employee engagement is creating opportunities that allows for involvement with their local community.
Such program can be…
- Habitat for Humanity to help build or repair homes for low income families
- Salvation Army bell ringing during the holidays to raise money to help the needy
- Computer training or tutoring for at risk kids to help them improve their grades
- Big sister, Big brother program to provide support and mentoring to young people who don't receive it in their home
How to start community involvement through your business
Creating community involvement opportunities through a business just requires planning and implementation. It is important that there is someone inside of the company that has management level approval for decisions that may involved the company. There should also be a team of key stakeholders who are responsible for the planning and organization of teams to implement the community involvement projects. Finally, it's also important to have a way to communicate with employees so that you can organize their efforts and relay instruction for how things will flow.
According to a blog post by Infusionsoft entitled, Getting Your Business Involved in the Community, there are several simple projects that business can do in order to quickly get started with community involvement. It said that, “becoming a community business can often make the difference between thriving and shutting your doors”. The five ways they suggested a business to start community involvement were:
- Sponsor a Sports Team
