Business owners really struggle with holiday planning which can be overwhelming. Trying to manage their desire to be available at all times for their family, friends, employees and their business creates stress. It stands to reason that the holiday’s are often a dreaded season for most business owners, which is why they need a holiday plan that works.
One of the greatest blessings of owning a business is the mental and emotional maturity it takes to stay present, whether you are conducting business, or being present with family and friends, especially around the holidays. This maturity sometimes brings one greater courage to be truthful, and feel a deep sense of gratitude, regardless of what those who do not understand, may think, say or do. Often entrepreneurs go against mainstream and sometimes even against what their family and friends say, just to stay in business. Maturity, however, isn’t just for business owners. It's also for when you’re in the role of a mom, dad, sibling, friend, and its recognizing the truth while having courage to speak it.
When you catch yourself looking at your watch for instance, and you’re struggling to complete tomorrow’s proposal before the annual office Christmas party begins; the mature business owner might ask, “Could I have done things differently up to now so as not to be feeling like Ms./Mr. Scrooge again this year?”. They may look at holiday planning and wonder, “When will it be over.”.
You see, until you can get ruthlessly honest with yourself, and with others, particularly around the holiday season, the chances of ever truly feeling that “magical holiday spirit” is pretty slim.
What’s The Starting Point For Holiday CHEER?
Author Napoleon Hill said, “The starting point of all achievement is DESIRE. The finishing point is that brand of KNOWLEDGE which leads to understanding—understanding of self, understanding of others, understanding of the laws of Nature, recognition and understanding of HAPPINESS.”
Whether it's Christmas time, or any other time, it's vitally important to have a handle on your own personal desires, and with the truthfulness of clarity.
What are your desires for holiday planning?
Remember these two factors:
1. SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE are action takers.
2. SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE heal their wounds.
We all have emotional wounds that hold us back in our lives, particularly around the holidays.
- Fears of failure or rejection
- Feelings of unworthiness or inadequacy
- Doubts about our abilities or our value
Lest I be misunderstood, I wish to state emphatically, that most of these thoughts are of your own imagination, and most certainly are lived out accordingly. And if these thoughts are lived out accordingly, then how much more would impassioned and high-spirited thoughts serve you? Thoughts of total confidence, total worthiness and incredible abilities!
As Author Napoleon Hill put it, “These later thoughts have led me into glorious paths of adventure, rekindled an appreciation of true greatness, encouraged creative endeavor, and emboldened the expression of honest thought.”
While the majority of business owners believes they have a healthy balance, a lot of business owners feel guilty when they take time off. Additionally, a large percent of small business owners report checking their phone at least once or twice a day when with their family and friends during the holidays.
This not only creates a strain on their personal relationships, but can also affect personal health. Small business owners suffer from work-related stress to the point that it’s impacted other areas of their lives. The holidays exacerbate it.
