As I share these tips, I want to encourage you to respond with a comment about how they have helped you with your business or share additional information of how you currently are using the chosen topic. I’m looking forward to hearing of great things for everyone.

From Corporate Job to Being An Entrepreneur

Have you ever felt like you were lassoed into a career like the cartoon above? Do you feel that you have been boxed into doing a job that you are just not passionate about? Don’t be like the cartoon above and get lassoed into a “corporate job” if you have an entrepreneur spirit.

To help you make the transition to being an entrepreneur from working a “corporate job”, I want to encourage you to read The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur (TPE) which was written by Michael Michalowicz. Mike wrote TPE in 2008 and it includes the 10 biggest mistakes that enterpreneurs can make in managing their businesses. Below are the 10 mistakes and a brief explanation regarding each mistake.

Is Bartering for You?

With the major economic changes happening, which are causing businesses to stretch their money, have you considered bartering as a way to do business? Personally, I have been burnt many time when bartering with others and have decided that I would come up with a checklist to determine if I should consider bartering services with another business owner. See the list below:

  • Does the service being offered to you in the barter have the same value as your service?
  • Is the other business owner willing to sign a barter agreement?
  • Does the other business owner have references?
  • Will the barter help you bring in new customers?

These are a few questions that you should consider when deciding whether bartering is for you or not. The video below goes into more detail. Please watch it and provide your feedback about barter.

Using Virtual Assistants (VA) to Grow Your Business

As a business owner and entrepreneur, I realized that I couldn’t grow my business successfully if I didn’t have a solid support team. So I purposefully sought out Virtual Assistants (VAs) that I felt would not only be beneficial to my business but I would also be able to help them grow their business.

Recently, I was featured in an editorial column on Entrepreneur.com by Patti Simone regarding “Virtual Help for Real Entrepreneurs” about this very topic. The purpose of this article was to share how entrepreneurs were using VAs to grow their business.

If you are an entrepreneur and have yet to start working with a VA then I would highly suggest that you hire one. For more details about hiring a VA, please check out my post on this website entitled, “Business Makeover: Hiring a Virtual Assistant (VA)“.

I would love to hear about… Continue reading

Business Makeover: Using Mind Mapping to Grow Business

The next step that I decided to take in my business makeover was to create a mind map for my business strategy so that I would be able to determine the direction better. According to Wikipedia.org, a mind map is…

A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged radially around a central key word or idea. It is used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and writing.

In order to create my mind map, I use both an online version (Mind Meister) and desktop version (Freemind). I have found that when I need to share a mind map that the online version is best. But if I’m going to be on the go without access to the internet, I use the desktop… Continue reading

Business Makeover: Setting Up Accountability Partners

Yesterday I made a business decision to ask for accountability partners as part of my business makeover. I sent a request out to Twitterville* and three of my tweeples** answered back to let me know that they would hold me accountable. The three who will be my acccountability partners are Latara (@LataraHamYing), Christine (@neosoulsister), and Dee (@deegospel).

Why did I ask for accountability partners? I did this so that I will have someone who would check on me to make sure that I’m following through with my plans. It is always important that you not only have a mentor, who will guide you in the right direction, but you also need accountability partners, who will hold you accountable to what you have decided to do. Having accountability partners is not something new but if you don’t have at least one, you are doing yourself a disfavor.

When determining who your… Continue reading
