    Healthy Living: Healthy Exercise Information

    Contributed by Heather Moreno

Commitment – the ability to carry out a worthy decision, even when the emotion or excitement of making that decision has passed. – Jack Raglin, PhD

I love this quote because it highlights the need for purpose. That is, having a clear sense of why you do what you do. For anyone who decides to engage in healthy habits, such as this Healthy Living Series, clarity is critical to one’s ability to follow through.

As you embark on such a path, determine your life’s top values. From health and career to God and family, make a list of what’s most important to you then put the list in order of priority. Next, identify all the reasons why you want to engage in healthier habits. It’s common knowledge that exercise and healthy eating can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and colon cancer. Both can help reduce feelings of depression and anxiety and helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints.  And, we can get those fit and toned bodies.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of health benefits; even so, I recommend taking this process much further. How will better health and a fit body influence your relationships, your career, and your self-confidence? In short, what benefits besides the obvious will your healthy habits provide you? How will this help you live out the values you identified as being most important? The greater your justification for making change, the greater your ability to be successful.
